RENEWAL, CANCELLATION, OR REISSUE

1.Renewal

You need to renew the driving license in each 5 years or 10 years and expiration date is your date of birth. You can renew the license before 150 days of expiration date. Person who has citizenship can renew Georgia driving license through internet, phone, or mail.

  • 60 days before expiration date, you can get renewal application which is sent from DDS by mail. To renew driving license, you need one picture, finger print, and signature according to the DDS rules. Also, you should not have the record such as suspension of license or revocation of license.
  • If you need to change other than address, you need to visit customer service center.
  • The renewal application will be sent resent address that DDS has.
  • Resident identification number (RIN) in the renewal application is marked the last date of testing on the driver’s license which is using or ID card. RIN is the number for identification.
  • If you get renewal application, you need to follow the standard procedure through online, mail, or phone call.
  • Anything you choose from above (online, mail, or phone call), you do not need to pay commission fee.
  • If there is no problem in the procedure, you will get renewal driving license by mail within 30 days.
  • If you do not have citizenship, you need to prove legal residency. You must visit customer service center to turn in the appropriateimmigration document and renew the driving license or ID.

2.Cancellation

If you do not renew the driving license 2 years after expiration date, the license will be cancelled.
If you want to renew the license, you need to follow the renewal issue procedure.

3. Reissue

  • Reissue because of lost or damage
    *requirement: identification, social security card, citizenship
    *commission: $20 (5 years), $35 (10 years)
  • Reissue after cancellation If you have out of state driving license, you can reissue to take eyesight and writing exams. If you do not have, you need to take eyesight, writing, and driving tests as what you did for the first time for issue.
